MASTERCLASS

THE EVOLUTION OF AUTHORITY:

Lead beyond thinking

In this 90-minute masterclass, Dr. Julia DiGangi explores the neuroscience of overthinking and why relying on thought as a source of power can leave us feeling depleted. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

WE'VE BEEN COMPLETELY WRONG ABOUT POWER

Look closely and you will see how completely we have confused thinking with power

Cognition is an extraordinary feature of the human brain. Of this, there is no doubt. But beguiled by its brilliance, we have handed thinking more authority than it was built to hold.

The symptoms of too much thinking are on display everywhere. I call these symptoms “The Overs.” They include things like overthinking, overanalyzing, overdelivering, overexplaining, and overfunctioning.

For a lifetime, you have used The Overs to govern your life. In so many ways, The Overs have been sold to us as path to leadership—that the one who thinks the most, analyzes the most, and strategizes the most is necessarily the most powerful.

Allow no other teacher to supersede the wisdom of your own life.

Has it worked?  In other words, after all that energy you’ve pumped into thinking, analyzing, explaining, and functioning, do you feel more powerful?

Or do you feel depleted? Drained.
Diminished.

As the machines churn out more and more information to think about, you’ll notice that nearly everyone is in agreement: We need a new way of doing things. There’s too much pressure on our political, economic, and relational systems.

There’s too much pressure on us.

And with that desire for change, there are all kinds of ideas on how to make things better—a thousand new ideas and a million more words on what people think should happen.

BUT CAN'T YOU SEE?

These calls for change are built upon the very corrupted system that brought us here: Thought.

You cannot build anything of strength on a foundation that’s already sinking.

Again, thinking is not inherently bad. As a neuropsychologist, I don't teach morality. I teach mechanism. Cognition is one biological system among the body’s many — sleep is another, and no one argues we should sleep all the time.

The next evolution of leadership will not begin with better strategy. It will begin with a deeper understanding of the mind doing the leading.

WHAT'S COVERED

In this two hour conversation, Dr. DiGangi will discuss:

The hard limits of your brain’s cognitive system — and what overthinking is doing to you

What your brain is actually doing when you think— it’s not what you have assumed

How you quietly authored the fundamental error: confusing what you think with who you are

Why the next evolution of leadership cannot come from thinking harder — it will require an upgrade to your inner architecture of power.
